Our History

 

Educators Historical Perspective

 

dr/NABSE was founded in 1985 by Dr. Jay Cummings, Ms. Shirley Ison-Newsome and Dr. Alfred L. Roberts, Sr. to advance the Mission of:

  • Promoting and facilitating the education of all students, especially those of African descent.

  • Establishing a coalition of African American educators and others directly and indirectly involved in the educational process.

  • Creating a forum for the exchange of  ideas and strategies to improve opportunities for people of African descent.

  • Identifying and developing African American professionals who will assume leadership position in education, and

  • Influencing public policy concerning the education of African Americans
