Educators Historical Perspective
dr/NABSE was founded in 1985 by Dr. Jay Cummings, Ms. Shirley Ison-Newsome and Dr. Alfred L. Roberts, Sr. to advance the Mission of:

Promoting and facilitating the education of all students, especially those of African descent.

Establishing a coalition of African American educators and others directly and indirectly involved in the educational process.

Creating a forum for the exchange of ideas and strategies to improve opportunities for people of African descent.

Identifying and developing African American professionals who will assume leadership position in education, and

Influencing public policy concerning the education of African Americans
